There are countless charities and volunteers around the world working tirelessly to support and protect communities, families, people and animals in need. And here at HomeoPet we do what we can to help support those that support others.
At HomeoPet we donate to and support many worthy causes each and every year. The work these charitable organisations do is incredible, and we want to share with you a little bit about what they do and why we get involved…
Newnan-Coweta Humane Society
The
animal welfare problem in the United States is not a new one. With approximately 70 million stray animals living in the United States and 6.5-8 million of these entering shelters every year, the tireless work carried out by the many great rescue organisations around the country is critical to help give animals in need a chance for happy, healthy lives. One such organisation is the Newnan-Coweta Humane Society (NCHS).
NCHS was founded in 1975 and is the oldest humane society or animal welfare organization in Coweta County. As a 501(c)3 all-volunteer, non-profit organization, NCHS does not receive federal, state, or county funding and relies completely on donations, grants and fees collected from adoptions to fund their rescue efforts. The charity has established and maintains a great working relationship with Coweta County Animal Services, as well as numerous rescues in their area and throughout the country.
Driven by a belief in the importance of saving homeless pets in their community, as well as educating to help end pet overpopulation, the NCHS team has a goal to one day eliminate the euthanization of healthy, adoptable animals in the area of Newnan-Coweta. The team works to achieve this through their dedicated rescue and foster programs and by raising community awareness through their many activities, including hosting a weekly TV show “Adopt-a-Pet”! The NCHS mainly rescues the animals from their local kill shelter, but always has individuals that reach out for their help who are looking to rehome, surrender or that no longer have a place for their own pets.
Since 1975, the NCHS has not had its own location, but recently this all changed as the charity purchased their very first building, a major achievement made possible only through generous community support from like-minded people dedicated to animal welfare. The building is currently being updated, painted and kitted out to be ready to serve as an office and holding/transition facility for animals going on transport to other rescues, and eventually serve as the NCHS adoption center.
Similar to many animal welfare organisations, consistent funding to operate is always a challenge for the NCHS and there is a continual deficit of foster homes for cats and dogs. We were delighted to provide some HomeoPet products for the NCHS team to share with pet owners and community members at their very first 5K/Fun run fundraiser this past September.
If you would like to support the great work of the NCHS, you can
follow them on facebook where you can also donate, or see their website at
